Shakespeare's Sonnet

We looked at Shakespeare's Sonnet 145 today in class. Your job tonight is two-fold: You will post a comment in the blog that brings up a point we did not cover today in regards to the sonnet. You will also point out something that one of your classmates mentioned that resonated with you. Some points to cover would be what you got out of the poem, what new understandings were brought to it, what you liked or disliked about it, etc.
Here is the sonnet below for a refresher:

"Those lips that love's own hand did make"

Those lips that love's own hand did make
Breathed forth the sound that said "I hate,"
To me that languished for her sake.
But when she saw my woeful state,
Straight in her heart did mercy come,
Chiding that tongue that ever sweet
Was used in giving gentle doom,
And taught it thus anew to greet.
"I hate" she altered with an end
That followed it as gentle day
Doth follow night, who, like a fiend,
From heaven to hell is flown away.
"I hate" from hate away she threw.
And saved my life, saying "not you."

Take a look at this website which helps with the understanding of metered verse.

For extra credit, you can mark up one of the poems and when everything is correct, print it out along with a paragraph that explains why you marked up what you did. (Hint: For full credit, make sure your answer is more in depth than an "I guessed".)

I'll post this in the Helpful Links section of our blog too!

Also, check back later on today! I'll be posting some of your classmates' papers from our Hamlet assignment. Homework for tomorrow will to be comment on each of the papers with compliments and constructive criticism, so if you want to get a jump start, you can work on it tonight. :)

Have a great rest of the day!

Austen Activities

Hey guys,
This is just a heads up for what we will be covering in the computer lab over the next few days. We will be taking a closer look at what was popular during Austen's time. This includes but is not limited to food, activities, clothing style, etc. We will work on brainstorming some topics to focus on when you arrive at the computer lab, and then each of you will receive a topic to focus on. At the end of class, post your findings in the comment section of this blog post.
